Equipment & Capabilities
Specialized Land Management is a new division of Old Growth Tree Service, which has been in business since 2016 with roots in arboriculture and land care that go back to the early 2000s. In the years since then, our business has grown exponentially because of our consistent ability to understand the needs of our customers, collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and partner with them to accomplish their goals on time and within the agreed-upon budget. We keep our promises and we pride ourselves on communicating at the highest level so that our customers feel at ease and are confident in their choice of partners.
Our success has translated into significant investments in equipment and personnel. We have a full complement of experienced staff and specialized equipment that allow us to complete fuel reduction and habitat enhancement projects efficiently on any terrain. This includes:
- Kaiser S8 walking excavator and drum mulching head
- 2 FAE PT300 masticators
- 2 Caterpillar 299 skidsteers and FAE drum mulching heads
- Caterpillar 309 tracked excavator with drum and disc mulching heads
- Peterbilt 379 Tractor & Deck Over Trailer
- Caterpillar 517 Track Skidder/Dozer
- Vermeer TX1400 Track Chipper
- 4wd pickups, UTVs and ATVs for shuttling into remote areas
- Capability to field a hand crew of 10+ in areas where machines are unusable

In addition, we have the capability and resources to scale quickly based on opportunity and demand. We have well-established relationships with vendors throughout the region to source equipment and subcontract services such as helicopter lifting and transport. We also recruit nationally and work closely with temporary labor services to ensure that we have ample labor staff despite the hiring challenges faced by many companies.
Our field operations team includes certified arborists, experienced wildland firefighters, equipment operators, two full-time mechanics, and a logistics support staff. Our four-person administrative staff coordinates resources, provides prompt and seamless communication, and ensures that we have ample, well-qualified staff available to serve our clients.
Over the past three years, we have completed multiple fuel reduction and habitat enhancement projects totaling more than 4000 acres throughout Colorado. We believe that our track record, as well as the attached references demonstrate a clear ability to complete large-scale projects such as this. We are well-versed in the dynamics of working in partnership with various stakeholders. We have worked with individual homeowners, HOAs, metro districts, municipalities, county governments, and federal agencies, and our work has ranged from residential structure protection, to large-scale helicopter-assisted removals.
Reviews
Matt communicated very well with CSFS foresters as well as with landowners. This project had a variety of timber types and the treatment on all was top notch. I can say without hesitation that the CSFS and landowners are very pleased with the work completed.

Old Growth Tree Service completed 2,600 acres of hazardous fuels mitigation projects
throughout Eagle County during 2023. There were a variety of scopes and specifications for the projects across the county, and Specialized Land Management left behind products that Eagle Valley Wildland and homeowners were pleased with. They were a pleasure to work with throughout the process and we look forward to working with them on fuels management projectsHugh Fairfield-Smith

From first contact through completion of the project, Matt and the SLM team provided the highest levels of quality and service and inspired confidence that they were the right people for the job. They have the knowledge, expertise, and tools to perform this type of work safely and efficiently, and they were very easy to do business with. Our project was completed on time and on budget, and I am extremely pleased with the result. I would happily use Old Growth Tree Service again should the need arise and recommend them without reservation.

I have worked with Matt for the past few years with Beetle kill mitigation on our 80 acre property in Eagle, Colorado. Our most recent project involved mitigation of 500 dead and infected trees from a steep hillside. My husband and I could not have been happier with the professionalism that went into this project.
